It’s June. In the blink of an eye the year has fled and now it’s June. To preface, this update will also be posted and sent out via Newsletter, but for new or returning members who want to know what’s been going on, I will share this here.
It’s June, and my life has changed wildly in the last 6-9 months. No, I’m not quitting writing, and no this website is not going away, but I am deciding to make some changes.
Consolidation
In light of my new schedules and busy years, I cannot keep up with 5-6 social media accounts, book reviews, Patreon posts, etc. I applaud the influencers and writers who can balance the social hustle alongside their daily hustle, not to mention writing and publishing books on top of that. I need to respect my time and mental wellbeing.
Therefore, I am shutting down my Instagram and Threads accounts, along with multiple old extraneous art sites. Patreon will not change at this time. I do not know that it offers enough support for me to post more than a few art pieces each month and the occasional poem, but I will evaluate it through the year.
This leaves a few socials for me to continue interacting and participating, Patreon, and this website. I will be dedicated to maintaining those things, however they will come second to my writing, work, and wellbeing.
Scheduling
My time during the school year is limited. I need sustainable ways to continue providing what I have in the past for you all, so I have decided to make newsletters quarterly (every three months).
I hope to return to reviewing at least a book a month, but please have patience while I learn to balance new things. Sometimes I need to read a book just to read it, and not worry about the reviewing.
Socials I leave to be updated when I have an update. I am not a particularly outgoing person online and if I’m honest, I forget they exist. I will pop on occasionally to see what friends are up to, and to update you all of important things in my writing life.
So Kay…Why?
Why am I making these changes? I have hinted at it, but allow me to flesh out the reason.
October of 2024 I took the first job that I can proudly say feels like a career. I became a teacher at a Private Christian School and took over the Third Grade class. It quickly became clear that my time and energy needed to be focused 100% on those kids. Teaching brought me joy and when I love something, I go all in.
This unfortunately meant that I didn’t have time to fully inventory and change my schedule around before hand, and as the year went on I chose to focus on my class over my website, social media, etc. I tried to keep up with Newsletters, accounts, Patreon, all of it, but it became a drain.
These things are not bad, and never did I lose my passion for writing or sharing that writing, my priorities simply shifted. It became clear to me when school ended last week that summer would be my writing time. I have revisions to finish, agents to query, but first I needed to address my vanishing act.
To continue teaching, and to continue my creative presence, I need balance. During the school year I have holidays, I have spring breaks, but I want to free those up to spend with family and doing the creative things I love. So the “work” side of being in the online creative sphere is going to take a backseat. You may notice I am more active in the summer, but consistency is key.
This consolidation and reworking of my schedule is my way to keeping it consistent. It’s going to be messy, imperfect, and a little unfinished, but I’d rather start somewhere. After all, you can’t edit a blank page.
